I couldn’t really take my eyes off of hers. Some photos are more than simple images. They’re art. You can tell from the way they make you feel. Enchanted, maybe, like me in front of Catherine Deneuve.
This is one piece of the amazing Studio Harcourt exhibition I was delighted to see last week at the Sofitel London St. James hotel. The famous French photo studio is in the UK for the first time with some of the most iconic pieces, beautifully printed and marvellously shot. I love the use of light in their portraits, that frame the most famous, beautiful, talented and controversial artists of the 20th century. Along the walls of the St. James hotel, the intimate yet powerful exhibition lines up some of the studio’s best shots, featuring stars such as Edith Piaf, Cate Blanchett, Salvador Dali and many more.
To celebrate the exhibition, I had the pleasure to try the special Cocktail menu from the St.James bar.
The bar is a little gem in the heart of London. Smaller and less busy compared to other hotel bars, it is the perfect place to relax after a long day.
Emilio, the talented barman, introduced us his delicious creations.
Each one of them is inspired by a star of the past. Just to name a few: The Blond Bombshell, a blend of cucumber and mint, is in honour of Marylin Monroe and her famous green dress for a Playboy cover. The Sultan of Swing is a tribute to Frank Sinatra and it is served in a flask. La Mome, with fresh berries, is for Edith Piaf and The British Bulldog for Winston Churchill. There’s even a cocktail dedicated to the Queen, and it is served in a tea cup. The drinks presentation is as amazing as their taste.
I chose Miss Mistanguette, inspired by a star of the Moulin Rouge. It was delicious, so fresh and fruity without being too sweet, with Brasilian cachaca and lemon foam on top.
Me, Frey de Fleur and Eileen Cuisine really had a super nice time at the bar. It is a perfect place to catch up with a friend, maybe right after a shopping afternoon since the hotel is so central and close to Piccadilly.
The Harcourt Studio exhibition is at the Sofitel London St.James until November 25th so hurry up to see the amazing photos and taste the cocktail menu.
Thanks Frey de Fleur for the last pic.
