A trip to Abu Dhabi – pt.1

Emirates Travel ·

Holidays in some warm, sunny place just when temperatures start to drop: that’s perfection. Luckily it’s a sunny day in London, otherwise I would be crying looking at these pictures 🙂  Last week – as you probably noticed on my Instagram – we flew to Abu Dhabi, the Emirates capital and second biggest city after Dubai. We were invited by St.Regis Hotels and Resorts to discover Family Traditions, a special offer just for families which is all about making holidays with kids less stressful and more playful, with special treats for everyone and a super child-friendly treatment. The offer is available at many of St.Regis destinations and we were lucky enough to try it at St.Regis Saadiyat Island, in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi is a unique city. Like Dubai it has beautiful sea, luxurious resorts and incredible architecture, but I found out it is a more quiet and family oriented city, less frenzied than Dubai. Moreover, Abu Dhabi still looks like a work-in-progress where a lot is going on and even more is about to happen. I honestly knew nothing about this place until I went there, and I never considered it as a family holiday destination. After 5 days spent there I can tell it definitely is.

We were staying at the wonderful Saadiyat Island (Saadiyat means ‘happiness’ in Arabic :)), a perfect retreat made of white sand beaches, beautiful resorts, golf courses and amazing attractions such as the Ferrari World and the Yas Waterworld. Saadiyat is such a new destination that the whole place is plenty of big building yard. It has big plans for the future like the opening of a Louvre museum and the inauguration of a Contemporary Art centre. It is connected to the land by four bridges and it takes 20 minutes to get to downtown Abu Dhabi.

Well, I have to say that once you enter the resort you forget all the world out there…

If the Family Tradition program’s mission is to make you feel spoiled and pampered, well, that’s really spot on. We loved the little treats like chocolates in the room everyday, special vouchers for cookies at the resort sweet shop and caring attentions for our daughter. For example, on the first day she made a bed for her little Panda plush with a pillow and a towel, and it was made up every day together with our beds 🙂

Our typical day started in the morning with a nice breakfast on the terrace.

Then of course we ran to the beach. I didn’t expect the Emirates sea to be so beautiful!

Of course we couldn’t miss the pool… kids love the pool. And we loved it as well!  Lunch by the pool is a dream came true 🙂

On the second day we went to Yas Waterworld, a water themed park full of amazing attractions for all ages. She really had a blast jumping in and out of the water, sliding, splashing and climbing on the water castles. We had a great time as well because the adult slides and attractions are truly enjoyable!

As we came back to the resort we enjoyed a dinner at its signature restaurant 55&5th. St.Regis Saadiyat Island has four restaurants: Olèa, for a rich buffet meal, 55&5th, a fine dining steak house, Sontaya, an excellent South Asian restaurant in an amazing setting and Turquoiz, a fish restaurant by the beach perfect also as an aperitif bar (it has a resident DJ).

Ops.. I took so many photos of the resort that I had not so much space left to talk you about what we did in Abu Dhabi. I’ll tell you (and show you) on the next post!
